Vocal booth, MIDI controller, Headphones, Microphone Testing.
On the first day of Christmas, my boyfriend gave to me: studio upgrades!
First of all he cut, stained and installed a beautiful, chocolate-brown wooden shelf so I could have a bigger computer screen to look at. He took a little desk space that we had in the corner and turned it into a vocal booth by covering it in foam panels.
He upgraded my DAW from Reaper to Logic Pro X, a software for Mac.
He also bought me a small MIDI keyboard / controller (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Oxygen-61-Ignite-Controller/dp/B00ALZ6WRO/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1484944397&sr=1-2&keywords=oxygen+keyboard ).
And then, I unwrapped the Sony headphone monitors, super useful for checking mixes or for keeping quiet: https://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR7506-Professional-Diaphragm-Headphone/dp/B000AJIF4E/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1484944479&sr=1-1&keywords=sony+studio+headphones
And before you tell me I’m one lucky woman, you should know that I bought him some books for Christmas. So yeah, he really embarrassed me. Ever since then, giving Christmas gifts has been like a contest between me and him.
I also upgraded to a Macbook Pro because, I soon realized, I needed the processing power.
I wanted to add a splash of color to my Youtube videos, so I installed some curtains and Christmas lights – those always help. That big beautiful keyboard belongs to Harry. Here’s a picture of Murphy doing a quick sound check for me.
